The .wav Games...

Here you have some great MSX games I've played.

No, do not think at this page to be a great repository of games, there are some others sites better to get programs. See the MSX Links for that.

KnightMare (courtesy of Riccardo Faidutti)I'm sure you've thought that playing MSX games on PC emulators is not the same as on the original MSX. There are some unlucky people, like me, that we have not disk hardware, and only can load programs using the tape connector.

Then, I've coverted some of my favourite games into a WAV sound files, that are the tape images of the data.

Running the games using Tape

To load them, just follow the steps:

  1. Download the file. They are .zip files with a high degree of compression (about 10.000 times - think that 10kb zip file = 1Mb wav file)
  2. Extract the .wav file into any directory.
  3. Power up your MSX and connect the EAR jack into the Speaker of the PC sound card.

At your MSX, execute RUN"CAS:" (it's also a good idea to set POKE -1,(15-PEEK(-1)\16)*17 before this)

  • At your PC, put the sound card volume and wave volume at maximum, and tune lows and highs at medium.
  • Play the .wav file using the windows multimedia player.

If you've followed all the steps correctly, the MSX will load the program without problems.

All these wav files are recorded to load at 2400 baud. To create these files, I've used my own utilities: MSXR2B to create a binary from a ROM, MSXF2W to create a Wav file from any .BIN, .BAS or .LDR file, and WAVGLUE, to merge all parts of the game.

If you have any question or you experience any problem on loading the data, please let me know .

Running the games using MESS (Thanks to Sean Young)

You can use these .wav games also with the MESS MSX emulator, that supports loading of wav files:

  1. Download and install the MESS emulator from MESS Download page
  2. Get the ROM MSX files and put them into the corresponding ROMS\MSX directory (see the MESS docs)
  3. By running the MESS, set Options | Image 0 as the filename of .wav file
  4. Run the emulator
  5. Execute RUN"CAS:"

Sorry but I cannot offer wav games due to copyright issues
